Starting a Business

Starting a Food-hygiene-montFood Business

If you are considering starting a new food business or taking over an existing food business it is strongly recommended that you contact your local Environmental Health Officer (EHO) – contact information is available on our website http://www.about-hygiene.com/blog/?cat=5 .

Very often new food businesses will design a layout and unknowingly build in food safety problems. These are often very expensive and difficult to sort out once the building work has been completed, for example ventilation systems, drainage systems and toilet facilities, planning permission just to name a few items.

Another costly mistake often made by those starting off in the food industry is not building in additional preparation and storage space.

When a business is successful and become very busy and can outgrow the space provided. Trying to prepare too much food in advance or at one time can lead to serious food poisoning. It is vital that additional space is built in or limiting your range of food will ensure safefood.

We at About Hygiene Ltd will be happy to meet with you in advance and discuss your proposed plans and ideas.

About Hygiene Ltd can assist with your legal obligations under food safety law including structural design and layout, training, food safety management systems and registration. This mentoring will save you time and money.

We would also recommend contacting your local Environmental Health Officer. This will foster a good relationship with your EHO and demonstrate your commitment to food safety.

HACCP Food Safety

& Food Hygiene Training

It is a legal requirement that people involved in a food environment are trained in Food Hygiene. The responsibility for the supervision and training lies with the owner of the food business.

People responsible for the development and maintenance of the food business’s Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) system must have received adequate training in the application of the HACCP principles.

See our website www.about-hygiene.com for a full range of training courses provided for both Food Handlers and Management.
